What is Clysis?
Clysis is a technique to provide large amounts of fluid into the body usually by injection, which bypasses the oral route (ie. swallowing or drinking). The fluid typically provides nutrients, replaces lost fluids, or maintains blood pressure.
When is Clysis used?
Clysis is usually used for clients who are unable to obtain the necessary nutrients, fluids, medications, etc. by mouth for various reasons. These clients are typically palliative care clients.
Which Clysis supplies do I need?
There may be a variety of supplies required for Clysis depending on the client’s situation. In Alberta, Alberta Health Services helps provide palliative care for eligible clients. If you or someone you know is eligible for palliative care and potentially in need of Clysis, you should contact your palliative care healthcare team for more information.
